UPDATE:
Finally there is color! Yay!
Joseph :O)
*News Flash*
My daughter, Maya, saw how much fun I am having with my comic that she decided to make one too! She’s 7 years old and in the first grade.
Please click over and check out Sweet-Blast. It’s about a donut named Sprinkles and he will be in adventures.
Maya did the artwork on paper and I scanned it in for her. Finally, she colored it with Manga Studio 5. I posted it on the web for her.
Maya would love for you to stop by and say hi :O)
Thanks for looking and have a great week, Wacky Readers!
Joseph :O)
How can he think about coffee at a time like this??? Sandia may need some Calamine Lotion.
Hahaha! Nacho is a coffeeholic! And Sandia will need a full bottle of that Calamine!
Great all I need is another artist out there with a website who is more talented than I am 🙂
You should be used to it Bearman, I’ve been around for a while now ha ha 😛
Hahaha! You guys crack me up! :OP
Coffee will save the day!
I think Nacho is jonesing for cup right about now :OP
I completely love your sketch style here, especially panel 3!
Thanks and welcome to the weird world of the Wacky Monkeys, AH!
Panel one is still a bit unresolved but I’ll get it right by Friday night. I love to draw grossities so I spend extra time on panel three. Thanks for visiting and your compliment :O)
You play my optic nerves like a master pianist on ivories, Joseph! This work in progress way of creating is entertaining as well as educational!
Thank you, Mark! I’m humbled by your compliment. YOU are the master! I’m still struggling to get things in balance with life, work and comics. I’m going through some ups and downs but thankfully there are more ups :O)
I know if I keep at it I can get through the turbulence and hit a great groove.
I’d also like to add that I admire you guys that post finished pages consistently every week. It’s no easy task and I find it amazing that you do so.
For me, it’s more that I HAVE to do it, then I want to. I won’t lie, it IS hard work to be consistent. I’ve been blessed to be able to keep up my posting schedule, but believe me, there have been plenty of times I wished that I could just eat a pizza and watch a movie instead. It really is like walking a tight rope, balance wise… Your work is of a superb quality, and that kind of investment takes time. You’ll find your groove, and it will be on your own terms, Joseph!
Thank you for your candid comment, Mark. It takes a bit of the mystery out of “how does he do it?”
I appreciate that so much! :O)
hi joseph I am so proud of you to finish the page
Thank you, Luis and welcome back! I’m proud that I got back to comicking after a week off. It was heart-wrenching to skip a week ;O(
Anyone would be terrified of the Wacky Money Squadron closing in on them! You’ve got some great expressions going on here.
Nacho’s problems are compounding with every flying nano-second! Thanks for your compliment, Peter! I have fun with expressions. Sometimes they come easily and sometimes it takes lots of work.
Sandia is in bad shape!
I agree, Mat. Sandia is getting worse with each scene. Hopefully she doesn’t die.
Nice pencil’s, Joseph. I went over and checked out Maya’s comic too. You have some competition there. Glad your love of making comics rubbed off on her. -v
Thank you, Vince! Also, thanks for visiting Maya’s site. She was so excited to get lots of visitors stopping by. She has many interests and comicking is a new one that’s gaining lots of traction.
I’m really worried for Sandia. She looks like she’s in a real bad state.
Sandia needs some serious medical attention, STAT! Otherwise this comic will turn from comedy to tragedy :O(
Hmm, I wonder how he takes his coffee? Can’t wait to see the final product next week. 🙂
I believe Nacho likes his coffee hot and black. No milk. No sugar.
I’m excited to ink and color this one. I have plans for the color :O)
Lots of drama going on here. Good stuff, Joseph.
Thanks, Eric! I’m shooting for a more somber scene here as opposed to something comedic.
Love the pencil work.
Thank you, Tom! Sometimes I get tight with pencils and sometimes I leave it really sloppy. I guess it depends on the page and my mood. I hope it’s not because I get lazy. I don’t want to be lazy.
I hope you have fun in your classroom
Oh, we have lots of fun in my classroom, Ashley! We miss you there! But I’ll be honest, when I get home I’m sapped of all energy. Kindergarteners are real energy sappers! But they’re so adorable :O)
Aha. Coffee is the inspiration to the madness. I get it now.
You got my number, Mike! I love coffee and thought I’d use it as Nacho’s expletive alternate saying.
I think when I don’t get coffee something bad happens in my comic :OP
I’m really into the TV show Dangerous Grounds and love tasting the coffees from La Colombe. Right now I’m having the Panamanian coffee with which Todd won the 2014 US Regional Coffee Championship.
hi joseph im back
Welcome back, Luis! It’s good to have you back. Just keep the comments appropriate, please.
hi joseph your daughter is a nice and good girl I like your comic and your daughter’s too stay wacky
Thank you, Luis, for visiting Maya’s site and for the compliment! :O)
The encompassing black in the third panel reinforces Sandia’s dire situation! Nacho’s got to multitask like crazy!
Thanks, Matt! I was aiming for a dire, gloom and doom kinda scene.
Very nice inking, like usual! And Sandia looks horrible which is good. The pacing/framing of your sequence is really effective in telling the story.
Thanks, Peter. I wasn’t sure whether I should have included this page or gone straight into the Wacky Monkeys dive-bombing. But I also wanted to show Sandia’s condition and Nacho’s concern for her. I’m glad you felt this sequence works. Thanks!
Coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee, coffee!
con leche, leche, leche, leche!
Ah yes, now we have those silky smooth inks, a hallmark of another extraordinary Joseph D. Rodriguez page!
Thank you, kind sir! I love making fat lines and thin lines with a brush :O)
The inks really bring this to life, Joseph!
Thank you, David. The most fun part about this process to me is inking. I don’t have to compose the scene. I can just focus on light, shadows and line quality.
Great inking as always Joseph! I’m looking forward to seeing how gross you make her with color! 😀
Thanks, Bill. I’m almost finished inking it. I didn’t make today’s deadline but it’ll post on the 17th. That’ll give me time to catch up and get back on track.
I love your work, but hate the wait. You need to outsource your work to a bunch of ghost-artists. I KNOW!!! Your students! Train them and then enjoy the fruits of their labor!
Maybe Joseph needs an infinite number of Wacky monkeys as his ghost artists.
Haha! That would be a great help! Binky can be their supervisor :O)
Thanks, Nef. I thought about getting a colorist and me just pencilling and inking, but I’ll hold off on it for a while. As tedious and time consuming it is for me to color. I enjoy it. Once I get back to comicking, I continue my efforts to getting a page done in two weeks. Then I’ll shoot for a one week production time.
Man, I don’t even know if I wanna know what’s over his shoulder. That face, full of such fright!
Haha! Nacho’s dilemmas have just multiplied.
Man, that third panel…..Wow! You threw in some tremendous, fear-inducing detail on that one.
Thank you, George. I had fun with that panel :O)
Sorry to hear you’re sick, Joseph. Get well soon!
Thanks, Peter. I’m feeling better now and working on getting all caught up with so much that I have missed out on. Lots of family, home and work obligations first. Then I’ll get back into comicking once that’s taken care of. By next Monday I’ll be back into the swing of things.
I am so grateful to be able to do all the things I’m able to do. Being ill and debilitated made me realize how amazing it is to be in good health.
Most take their health for granted. I’m glad you’re back up to speed!
I’m happy to hear your on the upswing now Joseph. The internet just isn’t the same without you! 😉
Thanks so much, Bill! I’ll miss your comics while you’re out, too! Comicking does take lots of time.
Your inks are as luscious as ever! Feel better soon, my friend!
Thank you, Mark. I’m well now and should be back on track. Getting other life’s things squared away and I should be drawing any day now.
The colors look great, Joseph!
Hope all is well Joseph and everything gets back to normal for you!
Thanks, David! Things are getting back to normal. Slowly but surely. I’ll be happy to get back into my routine again.
That’s one swollen hand! :/
Yes, she’s all out of proportion and puffy in some areas (or maybe I just didn’t draw it correctly). But either way, it’ll add to the weirdness of it all.
Color certainly adds to that. It’s awesome, friend!
Thanks, Eric! I try to have the color add to the story in some way. Hopefully it comes across.
Look at that color! Just look at that star-spangled COLOR! God bless Texas!
Remember the Alamo! :OP
You must have been wicked with the crayons in grade school. Looks Fantastic!
Haha! Thanks, Mike! I was never confident with color until I started this comic. When coloring a comic, it’s easy to change my mind about a certain color if it’s not working well.
Glorious color! Finally! That coloring on Sandia is almost too real!
Yes, FINALLY! I felt like Sandia looks when I was working on this page. Thankfully, I’m all well now! :O)
Nice grab! and great colour!! (oops spelt it the Canajun way!)
Thanks, Chris. It was fun giving Sandia an extreme gross-out makeover!
Stunning colour work indeed, Joseph! Excellent!
Thanks, Wouter! Sandia’s not too happy with it, though! :OP
Oh my god Joseph! I know you like to draw gross things but WOW! You certainly out did yourself with Sandia! 😀
Thanks, Bill! I get my inspiration from the Garbage Pail Kid Stickers. Also from Basil Wolverton.
I can’t see it
Oh now I can, your site was all weird looking for a while. It was as though comicpress was out of action for a bit
I had that problem with some other WordPress sites. I would click to the site and it would say it’s offline. Then I refresh the page and it appears like magic.
Joseph! Don’t know how I missed this page back in February! What great action… I love Nacho’s over-the-shoulder look in that final panel. Way to build suspense– there’s definitely SOMETHING on its way… something WACKY. Can’t wait to find out what his next challenge is!
Thanks, Haig. Nacho and Sandia are going through some rough times, I tell ya! (Kinda like me in a way) We’ll see how things progress, but Probably not good from the looks of it!
